Additional DGP Jails, KLN Rao said a high-power committee led by the Gujarat High Court Chief Justice had proposed to the Gujarat Government to release some of the prisoners to decrease the inmate density inside jail premises and effectively cut down on the threat posed by Covid-19.

Rao said the proposal was accepted by the government. “About 1200 under trials will be granted temporary bail and about 300 convicts will be granted parole or furlough up to 45 days,” he said.
