Ahmedabad, Feb 1, 2020: Two labourers from Banswara, southern Rajasthan, were killed when earth caved in even as installation of drain pipes was going on near Janpath Hotel in Motera area in north Ahmedabad on January 31.
The duo was suffocated to death after they were buried when loose soil gave way, about 50m away from their work site. Officials say the workers might have gone to answer nature’s call when the incident occurred. Four vehicles of the fire brigade rushed to the spot for a rescue operation but could not save the labourers.
The private contractor who had hired the labourers will compensate their families, an official said.
Notably, the accident occurred near the Motera Stadium, which US President Trump will inaugurate during his February visit.
