Swine flu death toll in Vadodara region rises to 12

Vadodara, Aug 6: Swine flu death toll in Vadodara city has risen to four and to 12 in the central Gujarat region of Vadodara with a six-year-old boy succumbing to swine flu on Saturday. The boy was admitted to Kashiben Gordhandas Patel Hospital in Karelibaug where he passed away at 12.45 am.
As many as 18 patients tested positive of the swine flu H1N1 virus. This, GNN learns is the highest number of positive cases witnessed in the Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) area.
A total of 26 samples were tested at the SSG Hospital. Of this 21 patients tested positive of the viral infection. Of the 21 patients that tested positive, 18 are from Vadodara city, two of Vadodara rural and one from the eastern Gujarat district of Dahod. Of the 21 patients that tested positive of swine flu on Saturday, 13 are females and eight are males. The dreaded virus has also hit children for amongst those who tested positive were a six-year-old boy, a five-year-old girl and a 14-month- old boy A majority of patients are presently undergoing treatment at private hospitals in the city.
With this, the total number of swine flu positive cases has reached 165 in the Vadodara region including 115 in Vadodara city, 14 in Vadodara district and 36 from other neighbouring districts.
In Vadodara city, a total of 115 patients have tested positive of swine flu during the current season. While 37 have been cured, four have succumbed to the deadly virus. Condition of 70 patients is reported to be stable and four serious patients are presently on ventilator.
Similarly for the overall Vadodara region, 165 patients have tested positive. Of this, 12 have died and 56 have been cured. Condition of 88 patients is said to be stable and nine patients are currently under ventilator.
Besides swine flu, two patients including a 29-year-old man from Danteshwar and a six-year-old girl from Gokulnagar tested positive of dengue. Three cases of malaria have also been registered in the city.
