Eunuchs open up their hearts and coffers

Vadodara, March 30, 2020: Eunuchs are distributing food, water, milk, food grains and other essential items amongst poor people in Gujarat’s third biggest city of Vadodara and Godhra in eastern Gujarat’s Panchmahal district.
The distribution started since Saturday and in just two days more than 300 houses have been covered.
In Vadodara and Godhra, local eunuchs are going door-to-door to distribute food to the hungry. They are also supplying it to the needy ones through NGOs since the lockdown came into effect on March 24.
During the lockdown when people are sitting at home and many poor and lower middle class people are left with no food, these eunuchs have opened their hearts and their coffers to make sure that nobody sleeps hungry.
“The money we have is the money of the society at large. So today since the society is in need, we are only giving it back but in different form,” Kalpana Kunwar of Baranpura tells Jay Pachhigar of TNN.
Puja Kunwar from Godhra said they have distributed food and grains in 300 houses in two days and are planning to reach out to many more.
Eunuchs are the first ones to arrive to on the occasion of any celebration or happy occasion at home or office. “They go only after they are paid as per their wish and demand,” a sociologist tells us. “Many people prefer to give whatever the eunuchs demand as they consider their blessings have the power to turn fortunes.”
