BJP’s door-to-door CAA promotion campaign backfires
GNN | Feb 01, 2020, 4:10 PM IST|
GNN News Service Ahmedabad, Feb 1, 2020: The Gujarat Government’s move to rope in councillors of ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) to promote door-to-door the controversial Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) seems to be backfiring for the BJP. GNN learns Ahmedabad people are throwing difficult to answer questions at the councillors who do not have answers. But the most difficult and pointed question being asked by the people is the Gujarat Government’s volte face on the issue of wearing helmets by two-wheeler riders. Sample this: “How do we trust your government which first gave us relief from wearing helmets and then submitted an affidavit in the Gujarat High Court saying there is no such relaxation?” Importantly people are also not bothered about CAA. “People just don’t seem to want to hear about CAA,” we hear. All the people seem to care about are good roads, street lights and potable water. A senior councillor had no answer to offer when defiant people asked him, “What have you done in the last five years?”
