Central GST team raids Surat builder office

Surat, Feb 1, 2020: A team of the Central Goods and Services Tax (C-GST) department raided the offices of Riviera builders group following tip off that the group was evading taxes and skipping filing of tax returns.
GNN learns in the raids between Thursday and Friday (January 30 and 31), many incriminating documents were found from the offices of the group located in Abrama, in Kamrej taluka in Surat district. Abrama is about 23-km east of Surat city.
A team of 27 officials from the Preventive Wing of the C-GST department conducted the raids, creating a scare among Surat city builders.
Last year, the C-GST department unearthed a huge Rs1,500cr ($211m) GST bogus billing racket run by one Jaishankar Dubey. As many as 35 exporters were questioned in the bogus billing scam and the investigations are still on in the case.
