  • Sajid was involved in petty thefts
  • Police staged the encounter to influence people

Ahmedabad, August 23, 2018. Three Congress MLAs on Tuesday met Gujarat Home Minister Pradipsinh Jadeja seeking a fair and independent probe in the alleged encounter of Sajid Hanif Shaikh alias Rabadi –who was shot down by policemen in Lunawada town in Mahisagar district in central-eastern Gujarat on Saturday.
The MLAs — Gyasuddin Shaikh from Dariapur, Mohammed Javed Peerzada from Wankaner and Imran Khedawala from Jamalpur-Khadia — gave Jadeja a representation signed by Leader of Opposition Paresh Dhanani, seeking fair probe into the incident by an independent agency.
“Sajid who was shot dead in an encounter by the police, was involved only in some petty cases of theft. But the police killed him in an encounter to influence people,” the Congress representation said seeking “justice for Shaikh and his family”.
Khedawala said that the community members and some of the family members of Sajid approached them to raise the issue. “After that we met Jadeja and gave a representation to chief minister Vijay Rupani.”
