Crorepati ‘Sotta’ has Rs 17.93 cr assets

Vadodara: One of BJP's heavyweight leaders, Shailesh aka Sotta Mehta has been convicted for rioting and attempt to murder by a local court. Mehta, who is contesting on BJP ticket from Dabhoi seat, declared in his affidavit on Thursday that the court had sentenced him to one year of imprisonment and Rs 3,800 fine in year 2000. Mehta had filed appeal in Gujarat high court but the case is pending. As per his declaration, Mehta has 10 cases including that of extortion, criminal intimidation, rioting, forgery and culpable homicide not amounting to murder registered against him in Panigate and City police station, a TNN report said.
Mehta, who was earlier with the Janta Dal (U), had joined BJP in 2011 and contested in the civic elections on the party's ticket. It is for the first time that he is contesting assembly polls. After Dinesh Patel aka Dinu mama who is contesting on BJP ticket from Padra, Mehta is second richest candidate in Vadodara so far. Mehta and his wife Meena's total movable and immovable assets amount to about Rs 17.93 crore that includes an Audi Q3 and Mercedes Benz. Movable assets of Manisha Vakil, BJP candidate from City constituency, rose from Rs 4.51 lakh in 2012 to Rs 7.93 lakh in 2017.
