VADODARA: The infighting over the ticket for the Kalol assembly seat in the family of Panchmahal BJP MP Prabhatsinh Chauhan has all the drama of a saas-bahu soap telecast.
Prabhatsinh's 'wife' Rangeshvari Chauhan, who is also the mother of a son from him, was fuming after she was denied the ticket to contest from Kalal seat where BJP picked up the MP's daughter-in-law Suman Chauhan. Rangeshvari openly challenged him to put his foot in the village, a TNN report said.
Prabhatsinh was strongly lobbying for a ticket for Rangeshvari and had even gone to the state BJP top brass with supporters to make a case for her. But more drama was in store on Friday when the BJP declared its fifth list and gave ticket to Prabhatsinh's daughter-in-law. Suman is the wife of Prabhatsinh's son Pravinsinh Chauhan from his first wife who is no more.
Rangeshvari admitted that while she had not claimed to be Prabhatsinh's wife, the MP's name figured as the father of her son. "I am still Rangeshvari Rathwa," she says even as she uses Chauhan as her surname on her Facebook profile.
"I have worked hard in the constituency and would have appreciated if anyone who had contributed to the area got a ticket. In Pravinsinh's case, he left the party and joined Congress and then returned. He and his wife are not even from the Kalol constituency, but are residents of Godhra," she said.
Soon after the BJP's candidate list did not mention her name, Rangeshvari wrote on her Facebook wall, "Prabhatsinh eni maanu doodh pidhu hoy to Kalol prachar karva aave aa maari challenge (If Prabhatsinh has the guts, I challenge him to come for canvassing in Kalol)."
She subsequently deleted the post. When it was on the wall, she had said that she was peeved as "BJP iand prime minister Narendra Modi were in her blood".
Rangeshvari, however, claimed to have reached a compromise on the issue and would work for the party. "The comment was not made because Pravinsinh's wife was given a ticket, but because it was given to someone who did not deserve it," she said.
