Minister’s immovable assets value unchanged in five years

VADODARA: Gujarat sports minister Rajendra Trivedi and his wife's movable assets have more than doubled in the last five years.
While the couple had total movable assets worth Rs 40 lakh going by the affidavit that the Raopura MLA had submitted in 2012, in 2017, the couple has total movable assets worth Rs 94.37 lakh. Individually, the MLA's movable assets stood at Rs 21.87 lakh in 2012 which have more than doubled in 2017 as they have reached Rs 47.29 lakh, a TNN report said.
Similarly, the movable assets of Trivedi's wife Sudhaben has also more than doubled from Rs 18.21 lakh in 2012 to Rs 47.07 lakh in 2017.
Five years back, when Trivedi had contested for the first time in the assembly elections, the MLA's income was Rs 4.47 lakh which has now more than doubled as the MLA has declared income of Rs 9.61 lakh in financial year 2017-18.
In 2012, the MLA's wife had no source of income but in financial year 2017-18, his wife has declared income worth Rs 4.62 lakh. Trivedi, a lawyer by profession, has one case pending against him for allegedly taking part in an effigy burning programme organised by the BJP.
He also has a licensed revolver. The affidavit mentions the value of this revolver to be worth Rs 20,000.
Interestingly, going by the 2012 and 2017 affidavits that the MLA has submitted, the value of couple's total immovable assets has not changed in the last five years. While the MLA has declared that the value of his immovable assets to be Rs 5.74 crore - similar to that in 2012, the value of immovable assets of his wife - Rs 6 lakh - also remains the same even after a gap of five years.
On Friday, when Trivedi along with BJP workers took out a rally from Kalyanraiji temple in old city area, there was chaos for few moments as a rocket-type fire cracker hit deputy mayor Yogesh Patel aka Mukti, who was on the same vehicle as that of Trivedi.
BJP leaders who were sharing the open vehicle immediately rushed to help Mukti, whose shirt had to be torn to prevent fire spreading on his clothes.
The total number of candidates who are in fray in the ten assembly constituencies of Vadodara city and district has reached 45 with 23 more candidates filing their papers.
