GNN Report Aravalli, Feb 01, 2020: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by the Gujarat Government to investigate the brutal rape and the murder of a 19-year-old Modasa girl on Friday reconstructed the crime at Sayra village, where the girl was found hanging early this year on January 5. The team, headed by the DIG (CID-Crime) Gautam Kumar Parmar, along with other officers and a team from the Directorate of Forensic Sciences (DFS) on Friday reached Sayra village and scientifically tried to understand if it was possible for the girl to have hanged herself, or if someone else had hanged her, and how. Later talking to the media, Parmar said the entire case is being investigated scientifically to establish what happened and how the crime, if any, actually occurred. He added: “Today, with the help of DFS we tried to find out how the crime may have occurred. The investigation is ongoing, and it will be some time before a final result is announced.” The Dalit girl from Sayra village had gone missing on December 31. Her corpse was found hanging from a tree outside the village on January 5. The girl’s parents and community members had alleged that she was kidnapped, gang-raped and hanged by three people. However, the police initially treated it as a case of suicide. Eventually, after a lot of protests, an FIR was lodged. Soon after, the state government constituted a SIT to investigate the offence as well as probe the role of any police officials who may have been involved. Police have till date arrested three persons belonging to the Bharwad community.
